About
Speed Roast is a free internet speed testing tool. There are no accounts, nothing to install, and nothing to pay for.
About me
I’m KB. I test your internet and tell you what I think. Bluntly. You can change how bluntly in Settings.
How I measure
I use Measurement Lab’s NDT7 protocol, the same open test the researchers and regulators rely on, because I would rather be right than flattering. Your browser connects to the nearest M-Lab server and moves data in both directions for about ten seconds each way. I report the sustained rate, and the ping is the round trip to that server.
What I measure is the whole path: your device, your Wi-Fi, your router, your provider, and the route to the server. A test over Wi-Fi is often well below what the line can do. If you want a fair reading, plug in a cable. If you want an unfair one, stand outside.
My grades
Every result gets a grade from one to seven on download speed. The scale is mine, and it is deliberately unforgiving.
| 1 | Catastrophic | under 5 Mbps |
| 2 | Disappointing | 5 to 25 Mbps |
| 3 | Mediocre | 25 to 75 Mbps |
| 4 | Acceptable (barely) | 75 to 150 Mbps |
| 5 | Genuinely Good | 150 to 400 Mbps |
| 6 | Elite | 400 to 600 Mbps |
| 7 | Rare Respect | 600 Mbps and up |
